In the event, he did (Session 4): woke during the shadow attack, came out with his sabre, and slashed at The Shadows (a clumsy stroke that missed the thing and nearly clipped Amelia, gouging the floor). He held off his shotgun, sensibly, with Amelia in the line of fire
