The Blood Red Veil
- The artefact at the centre of the campaign. Black, thick, heavy, and soaked-feeling, woven with hieroglyph-like symbols in no language anyone has placed. Two phrases have been translated from it: RISING FROM THE PAST and DOMINION OVER ALL
- Whispers to anyone close in alien syllables. Amelia has heard it more than once; guarding it overnight on the train, she heard it tell her to shoot the Europeans (Session 4). It cost her magic points and a point of sanity the first time, in Durward Street
- Worth examined it and judged it an authentic pre-Christian artefact (Session 2)
- Brought by Menkaph from Constantinople to London
- Killed Maria-Pook. It grew into her face below the eyes and drained her; she lived perhaps four days after putting it on, and a knot of tentacles was found where her brain should have been
- Said to be indestructible — it cannot be burned. Professor Demir’s telegrams insist it cannot be destroyed and must be carried to him in Constantinople all the same
- Now carried in a locked wooden case with a handle. Amelia keeps it at her feet and will not let it leave her sight. It was not taken during the shadow attack (Session 4)
- See also the Arrest Veil Decline spell, which the party hopes can slow the veil’s effect on a victim before it is too late
